Once I get some experience with this, I'll be confident enough to start
a real conversion. I have a 6 mile commute, so I ought to be able to
build something with decent performance.

Fraid not, I have a couple of scooters but they're generic Chinese things.
Let's see. 1HP is 743 watts so I'm guessing their CT-660B8 (the 750w
$39.95 unit) maybe? Anyone else wanna chime up on my guess?
You'll want a throttle too. The above controller uses a hall effect
throttle the cheapest looks like it's they have a few in the $18-$24 range.
That'll get that mini-bike moving pretty well!
