Garret,
You and the others may be right. I might have had a overly high expectation. My bike is just under stock weight of 403 (curb) at 385 lbs. The sprocket ratio is 3.07, i was under the impression that if the amp draw was high (at wide open) then the ratio was to low. Is that wrong? I would be happy with 80 amps at 50 mph. Of course, less the better!
As i get it figured out, i will repost.
I saw your ev album site, how do i submit a posting? Would like to put it up so you could have a look.
Thanks
Paul

Paul,I don't think 40 amp at 48v (1.9kw: 2.5hp) and 50mph is a reasonable expectation. Seems overly optomistic to me. I hope you make it and I am wrong, but I am running a bike over 600 lbs and with an 8-10% less efficent series motor, but at 50mph, 72v with a 4.6 gear ratio which is a top speed ratio around 58mph, I am more into the 80 to 100 amp range (5.7 - 7.2kw: 7.6 - 9.6hp).I am still testing and varifying numbers, but I have a few hundered miles on my bike at this point.Garret MakiHi Andrew,I have a single Etek, 48 volts (pc1200 hawkers), 400 amp Alltrax controller. I am running a chain drive direct.. At 50 mph i have a 100 amp draw (way to much!!) the ratio is 14f and 43 rear. I just thru the sprockets on that i had and now i have to get them closer to the 40 amps that i want at 50 mph. The best part is that the etek a common shaft for industrial stuff, and the honda rear i can get a whole bunch of sprocketsI chose the chain instead of a shaft bike due to loss. Chain drives are still the most efficient way to transfere power. I dont have the experience putting motors together so i cant help you there. good luck, GAME ON!Paul.
