Mike,
I will start with a 400 amp Curtis with plans for a 600 amp Navitas.
With three strings each battery should see no more than 133 amps with
the Curtis and 200 with the Navitas. The max charge current is a bit
low for these batteries compared to Optimas, Exides, or Hawker
Odysseys/Genesis. These are by no means the toughest batteries, their
not junk either. The GPR ( http://www.electricmotorsport.com ) uses
B&B HR (high rate) batteries which are very similar to the EVP
series, just cheaper with slightly more capacity at the expense of
cycle life. These batteries should provide 300 100% DOD cycles, similar
to Optimas, less than Hawkers.
I don't mind using Chinese batteries. B&B provides excelling spec
sheets providing power timetables, cycle information, and additional
info that is difficult to find for Exides and Optimas though Hawker
does have some decent spec sheets. Added to that is the fact that these
B&Bs seem to have a good tract record and are of better quality
than the others (Tysonic, Powersonic, Long, ect.). I've heard of people
upgradeing to B&B from other Chinese brands with good results.
