sounds like a good start. i'm also new, and really looking at ways to get some better range, that is the only downside i see. in australia, there are not many guys doing this, so i have to seatch for it all myself.

i am looking at the shunt motor that "thunderstruck" sell, as it also has the power of regenerative braking, which will ass a small percentage to range, has anyone used, heard anything about these??? ----- Original Message ----- From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

My bike is the honda vf500. Etek motor, alltrax 48v controller, 4 hawker odessey 40ah batts, small 5 ah accy batt, onboard charger. Range is 20 miles to around 80% discharged. 14 f, 43 rear for ratio. A typical ride for me is 3 miles freeway (60mph) then 7 stop and go 25-30 mph. When i get to work i have generally 45-55% capacity left. I plug it in and charge while i am working. The ride home is a little eaiser (down hill) but is still have to save enough range to jump on the freeway for the last 3 miles.
