Thanks Lyle, thats interesting.

so that is something like CMRA in the US, where they run on technical tracks and kart tracks, and a lot of the bikes are converted 80cc. Still thats better than I expected. My back-of-napkin was based on a TZ250 frame which is about 200 lbs or maybe a bit less without motor and fuel. I figured it would need the equivalent of a 50 hp gas motor to be interesting at a running weight of 300-350 lbs, sans rider. Thats a little less hp than an Aprilia RS250, but loads of low-end torque would make for a great start.

At my club, WSMC, thats 8 laps at 1:35 a lap, 2.5 mile laps; plus riding to the grid, warm-up, cool down laps. So figure 12-13 minutes at speed plus some coasting.

I couldn't get a motor controller and batts into that 100-150 lb envelope. Perhaps more experienced folks could speculate on the possibilities?

Who is racing electric motards in the US?

Dang it looks like some of the archived info is gone
from the site and evn-cup.at So it looks like some of
the older specs are not posted anymore.

Remember under FIA/FIM rules, the categories are
divided by weight [below or above 150kg,330lbs]. So
for the smaller category [below 150kg] it would make
sense to use a lighter frame which is fairly common in
italy. Above 150kg, you notice the larger sized bike.
BTW before getting a drivers license for a car,
italians have to spend years on a small cc scooter
before graduating to either a larger cc and/or
eventually car.

Races are divided into 2 heat races with a minimum of
20km(12.4 miles) but the tracks vary due to location.
From what I remember reading and watching the vids,
speed in 2000 under the evn-cup was slow about 30-45
mph. In fact, they had grouped lighter bikes and
recumbents into the race as an all-in-one. When it
went to a FIA sactioned event (2001?), betti luciano
and others really increased the speed to the max that
manuverability allowed as well as their battieries
60-70mph. In addition, I believe the track distances
have been increasing but I cant confirm it at this
time. I was trying to find the route and course from
some fo the organizers to give a good answer. Is it
the 150+mph of superbikes? Not yet.
