Not being an RC guy, I wasn't aware that very large electric planes - 20+lbs
1,5 meter wings - were being flown.
Well they are, and they have some really powerful light motors. The biggest
seems to be from this German company:
http://www.plettenberg-motoren.com/UK/

Their largest is 1900g 15 Kw at 50 V, with very high rpm capability.
http://www.plettenberg-motoren.com/UK/Motoren/aussen/Predator37/Motor.htm
well its optimized for turning a big ( relatively) prop very fast, not for use as a traction motor, and so they say in an email:
"The biggest motor we produce is the Predator 37/6.
The motor has with about 50V a power of 15 KW.
It is developed to use it in big modell-planes.
Because of the open housing and the badly needed cooling
the motor can not be used in a bicycle or motorcycles."

Nevertheless it impressed me. Its probably very low torque, yet the site shows
it in use in RC trucks and boats.
I note the RC world isn't as stodgy as I thought.
