When the list was new we all voted on the file attachment subject.
Some of us had fast connections (I had a tap off an OC-43, myself)
while others where getting the list via hamster powered modems. So
we settled on the 200kb attachment file limit.
I get notified when a large attachment tries to get sent. When this
happens I email the sender and tell them to scale the image down. So
far, only one person has done so. That tells me we're missing out on
some good photos of projects.
You old timers might remember a little service I put together for the
list that would scale photos to an acceptable file size. This
really didn't get used much, if at all, and it faded away. I think
that if I can escape a honey-do or two that I'll put that back
together.
For you newer guys, you can send your pictures to this service and
it'll shrink them down automatically for you.
I'll try to get that back together right away. Until then, remember,
file maximum file size you can send to the list is 200k.
