BTW, possible old news to you builders, but new news to me: I am interested in a slightly bigger than bicycle EV project, and I found a lot of interesting hardware, motors, controllers, control interfaces and such in robot, particularly battle-bot, oriented suppliers. The very heaviest bots use 1-3 hp motors and there are dual-channel controllers up to 125A/channel perfect for my di-wheel.
Note: I didn't see anything heavy enough for a 300+ lb motorcycle For instance: The most interesting choice was the Dewalt 24V hammerdrill motor available here for < $60 ( gear box and hardened versions available) http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/BP389010-00.html DeWalt Part Number 389010-00 Voltage 24vdc (can be overvolted) Nominal Torque 94.5 in-lbs Torque at stall 192 in-lbs Torque Constant: 1.5 ozf-in/Amp No-load Current: 2.6 Amps Nominal Amperage 68 Amps Stall Current: 190 Amps RPM 21,000 ungeared Angular-velocity Constant 880 RPM/v Output gear 19 Teeth Gearbox BPDGFGD24 Size 4.8" long x 2.25" dia Weight 25.60oz or 1.600 Lbs Armature Resistance: 0.095 Ohms Peak Power: 2 HP Peak Effeciency: 81%
