Hi everyone, I got a call this morning from Cheryl Miller of the City of Deerfield Beach informing me, with deep regret, that they have had to cancel Deerfield Beach's annual Earth Day event this year (which they had planned to hold on Saturday April 21) due to failing to get the necessary approvals and support of the city authorities as well as sufficient sponsorship from various vendors. I told Cheryl how sorry I am to hear that, especially because Deerfield Beach's Earth Day event is one of the best events we participate in for the entire year, certainly the best attended event, where last year, for example, we must have spoken with several hundred people. Cheryl appreciated that and asked if I could put those comments in writing and email them to her, which I plan to do today, as she said it would help her to try to convince the city authorities and various sponsors of the merits of supporting this event in future years. I'm thinking that it would be helpful if others of you in the Florida EAA who have also participated in previous years Earth Day events at Deerfield Beach could also write Cheryl with the same kind of supportive comments about how important and valuable this event has always been for us, one of our top events of the entire year, something along those lines.
Cheryl Miller: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cheryl did say that she and one or two of her colleagues in the city's Recycling Division are planning to have a very scaled-down, informal, minimal event, just a small "presence" really, in the parking lot in front of the fishing pier, with a table and a few chairs to hand out flyers and explain Deerfield Beach's recycling program from 9am to noon on Saturday April 21. Cheryl said that any of us in the Florida EAA who would like to come are welcome to bring our EVs and have a table and display next to her Recycling Division there in the fishing pier parking lot. She said that she'd reserve and rope off enough space for us to display our vehicles in the parking lot there if we tell her how many of us are coming. I myself would like to go with either my RAV4-EV or my Vectrix bike (if I have it by then), if for no other reason than just to show some support for Cheryl and Marnie, since they have always been very supportive of us (as Shawn and Matt know best, having participated many more years than I have), and let them know that we'll be there for them again in future years. This is very easy for me to do since it's only a 10 mile drive for me and I don't have anything else scheduled that day anyway. Could any of you who would like to come to this scaled-down, informal mini-display please send me an email to let me know so that I can get an accurate vehicle count to give to Cheryl. Thanks, Charles Whalen Florida EAA Delray Beach, FL [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ FLEAA Mailing List [email protected] http://www.floridaeaa.org
