My EV project is at month 3 of the planning and design level and I share
some of these concerns.
As your article points out there have been a lot of production EV out there
that work on older proven technology.
I believe that consumers would complain if there new expensive EV had NiMH
batteries and when would LiIon be available, even if there was NO advantage.

I know a person with a Segway, all he did was complain about how they
promised LiIon batteries and how long they took to get the design finalized.
He got his expensive batteries, he has never ridden far enough to run out of
battery. Now he and the other LiIon people are upset, The NiMH can be
carried on commercial passenger aircraft as luggage, the LiIon cant.
My real concern is why are all the EV being planned high performance and
really hybrids? The volt looks like a sports car and talks about speed and
HP. The jeep talks about competition rock-climbing torque. Actually my
concern goes farther into the small number of fuel efficient IC vehicles.
The auto industry is out of phase with reality and fuel usage.
People have told me that by time I convert a car the Volt will be ready. I
am not sure I care and I suspect it will be another 5 years for a true EV
for going to work in town.
I am very concerned that my converted EV not be a E_Wreck, It needs to be
attractive and make a positive statement about electric vehicles as do all
conversions.

Subject: [FLEAA] RAV4 EV NiMH Flyer (Handout)

Folks,

I have c onverted ny Ranger to an EV because the production electric car I
really wanted wasn't available. I occcasionally show my car, but am always
concerned that the limitations of my car are mistaken for the limitations of

"Electric Vehicles" in general.

My standard for the best production "Electric Vehicle" yet made is the RAV4
EV. Not to minimize the Tesla Roadster or the E-box, but they are not
production vehicles from a major atuo maker, although I would be happy to
own or drive either one of them.

I choose the RAV4-EV as the standard because it is a "Practical" family
vehicle. Something a lot of people can relate to, a sort of "Folks Wagon".

The problem is not many people know about it. So to spread the word and
make sure anyone looking at my car knows what I consider the real standard
is, I have put together a one page 8.5x11 sheet printed on both sides to
hand out at events.

The document serves as an introduction to the RAV4-EV and recent EV history.

I offer it to you in the form of two files, an RTF and A PDF. Print one,
then flip the page over and print the other on the back. The beauty is, if
you disagreee with it in part, you can modify it to suit your needs.

I would be interested if you feel the need to make changes. I might
incorporate them in my copy.
