I spoke with Rich Shopes, the reporter from the Tampa Tribune by phone this
afternoon. While I had my notes and information to support EVs ready, all he
seemed to want to discuss was using an EV as an alternative to high gas prices.
The environmental, efficiency, and national interest benefits I also tried to
point out were brushed aside. He also expressed little interest in the Ford
factory built Ranger EV that Skip Smalenberger owns in this area, or Charles
Whalen's Toyota Rav 4 EVs.
It looks like the direction of his article is slanted toward "Owners fed up
with high gas prices convert to electric" or something similar. He is
preparing the article for tomorrow's edition, so no photos or get together with
several of us to meet him. I provided phone numbers and e-mail for others in
the area he could contact. I'll hope for the best, but I think Andrew's
article will be far more balanced as this reporter appeared to have a narrow
view he wanted to cover.
