Since my wife has been driving a Xebra to work for about a year and a half,
she's learned to keep an eye on the DrainBrain (now called CycleAnalyst) and on
the recently installed PakTrakr. Both units display amperage and she's learned
to become a bit lighter on the electron pedal. That includes coasting to red
lights, a major change in driving for her. The other day, she had to drive the
Scion xA and told me she missed the feedback from the instruments.

I've since installed a ScanGauge in the xA. It provides instantaneous mpg
figures, among other useful tidbits. We have not driven the vehicle to a
fill-up yet, but expect a fifteen to twenty percent improvement in economy, due
to the feedback. My friend has recently become a dealer for the ScanGauge and
cannot get them in fast enough.

I don't worry overmuch about the tailgaters, as they are enjoying improved fuel
economy from following me or my wife, usually without realizing it. A bumper
sticker saying as much might not go over well though. The Xebra has a great
wide flat back end, perfect for bumper stickers, but my wife does not want to
be a social statement. The Gizmo tapers to the rear wheel, not much billboard
space there.

Subject: [FLEAA] mass EV ignorance

Michael,

It is not just the EV clubs and conversions that will stick it to Detroit. We
need to also tap into the "Gas Pump Rage" (or in some cases despair) and get
the word out that the public really has some alternatives to the "Status Quo".
Just be ready to realize that most folks are not blessed with the Time Talent
or Tenacity to achieve what we are planning to do.

Thanks,

John

I totally agree, John. Just my commute to work for 40 miles PROVES this. I
drive an ICE (the hybrid the wife keeps ;( ) 80 miles a day. I never go over
55 and try to stay at 50 even on 275 in tampa. I slow down for the red
lights, cuz whats the point of rushing to just stop at the light? I am
tailgated, mocked (I can see them in the mirror making all kinds of hand
gestures), and treated like an abnormality. By driving this way I get 30 miles
per gallon. If I drive the way they are driving I get 20 mpg. It really looks
like gas needs to get to 10 dollars a gallon before people with finally slow
down to conserve fuel or seriously consider EVs.
