Hi Brian, I am not a fan of the term "best practices" as I have my own reasons for that. I guess for doing the migration you can have a look at some of the articles that Bill English has written around this and shape it to your particular needs. It all depends on the environment but having a set of guidelines to start with and go from there is a great start.
