Hmmm ... that doesn't work. I tried going direct via URL to 'upload.aspx' for the library but got Access Denied when uploading - presumably Read Only permissions blocked the upload. So what I need is the 'Contribute' configuration with 'New Document' removed from the list top menu and 'Edit Item' removed from the Item dropdown list.
