Hi all,

On top of that, there is a new command in stsadm that deals with moving site
collections to other content databases. Look it up here
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Office/en-us/library/829cfa96-89b1-4a7b-b980-6d5d3e2a3ee11033.mspx?mfr=true

I haven't tried it myself but you can use the source and dest content database
parameters. It saves you from doing the trick that John pointed out in the blgo
post of shutting down the content database, backup, delete and restore. This
seems much simpler (I have done this method several times by the way!, it is
not fun:( )

Has anyone tried this new method?

Hmmm...wasnt aware of that. Maybe I should stick to answering developer
questions from now on.

This is the best explanation of this requirements....

In summary it depends on how you have distributed your content i.e. Site
Collections and associated Web Apps...

Subject: [OzMOSS] Adding Content Databases

Guys

Excuse me if this is a dumb question, but, if i have a moss installation that
has a rather large database and i want to be able to add another databse (easy)
how then do i ensure that new content or specified content sits in that
database and that my original one wont continue to grow.

I would also like to be able to do this with a services installtion that has
grown out of site and the 4gb slq-e database just wont cope long term, could i
not just add another sql(full) content database? again same question as above
would apply.

Cheers
