I get what you mean. So I can create a simple workflow or event receiver that updates this hidden field automatically with truncated data every time a page is updated.
There is no easy workaround for this, is there? The problem is, the client wants to be able to sort based on this field. I've tried so many different ways (using Text but it's limited to 255 or using Note, HTML publishing field, custom field based on Note) yet none of them can be sorted.
