I have hosted a combination 64bit database server, 32bit WFE and index servers 
on Hyper-V for testing purposes..Seems to integrate well and work ok!..yet to 
do full on testing..
 
on the same note has anyone got any advise on the best practices or point to 
any references in regards to the thread...

You are correct.  Database and WFE do not need to be the same at all.
