If you don’t mind I will introduce myself.

Name: Alex Odintsov

Location: Georgia, USA

Employer: Universal Tax Systems Inc.

Position: Lead Software Developer

My team is using TFS since the beginning. We have more than 15 projects in TFS, a few of them are huge. We have .NET projects (libraries and ASP.NET) in TFS as well as non .NET projects (Delphi, C++ and etc). We’ve migrated all projects from PVCS (manually). Also, we’ve migrated all defects from Mercury Test Director (created a tool that migrated them all). We use Microsoft Premier Support (MPS) and recently they released a hot fix for one of SQL Server stored procedures for us.

We are trying to integrate TFS in our SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) as much as possible. Currently are trying to setup Continues Integration builds and automate the deployment processes. We’ve installed TFS on one server and when attempted to split it by sub-systems (TFS, SQL Server and Build servers) discovered that we have to buy 2 additional licenses for TFS (one license for SQL Server and another for Build server). It does not look logical, but nobody promised a fair life. I’ve budgeted that for the next year. We’ve spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best source tree for our projects. Involved MPS and decided instead of re-inventing the wheel to adopt Microsoft VBL model (http://blogs.msdn.com/bharry/archive/2005/11/12/492198.aspx). Came up with lots of branches and now we are trying to decrease its number because it (the number of branches) hurts the performance of the server. A few days ago, we’ve realized that our TFS trial is expired which locked down our development department for good. Had to call our MPS and they came up with a tool that extended the trial for another 30 days. You can request this tool here if you are like us J http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/showpost.aspx?postid=739494&siteid=1. Every morning starts with reading Rob Caron’s blog (http://blogs.msdn.com/robcaron).

I’m looking for anything that will make my work and my team’s work better as well as for people to share my concerns and problems with J … and success of course too J

Thanks,

Alex.
