Server deployment is not recommended by MS."You can choose to install Team Foundation Build on a separate server or client computer, or side-by-side on any client computer with Team System installed. You can also choose to install Team Foundation Build on the same server as Team Foundation Server, although this is not recommended." It will work fine, if TFS is hitting by 1 or 2 team, Imagine that one of the team try to build in the working hours while other developers doing check-in/Out/Reporting/Testing on the same server, it will be very slow. This is considered as a risk. What I did is configuring TFS good and both (Build Server and TFS on the same machine). It works well. BTW, The development teams are not big sized. Max 40 developers on the same machine. If you have a dual server installation, then you have to configure a separate machine as Team Build Server. This is also the advise of Microsoft on this stage.
