Yeah I'm getting steps for each project (over 60) and then a step for when each
project builds another project it references... and a lot of the projects
reference each other of course.

In TFS 2008 you actually get more than 1 step per project under some
circumstances. This will be fixed in Service Pack 1, see Aaron's post about
reducing build log noise:

You'll get a build step for every project in your solution.

For example, we have a solution (in 'SolutionToBuild') with 60 projects in it.

Also, check for manual BuildStep tasks.

Code like below could cause a heap of useless build steps:

<CreateItem Include="c:\**\*.*">

      <Output TaskParameter="Include" ItemName="AllMyFiles"/>

</CreateItem>

<BuildStep TeamFoundationServerUrl="$(TeamFoundationServerUrl)"

               BuildUri="$(BuildURI)"

               Message="%(AllMyFiles)"

               Status="Succeeded" />

(Untested but I presume the above code would suck)

Maybe advise of some of the build step messages you are getting? Are they
repeating the same thing over and over?

Subject: [OzTFS] So many build steps in TFS2008 build that can't scroll down to

Anybody know why my TFS2008 build has so many steps (over a 1,000) that I can
no longer scroll down in VS IDE to see them all? Very annoying.
