Hi Lisa,
Yes, my Israeli student speaks Hebrew. I speak very little and even less  
Mandarin.  Now, I realize how much I help my Hispanic students because I  
encourage them to speak English, but I can talk to them in Spanish and repeat 
in  
English.  They have the opportunity to catch on a lot sooner.  And,  you are 
right about a lot of the students I get, they are less than  proficient in 
their 
native language, which carries over to ours.  I am  curious to see what my 
Chinese student knows.  I have a bit of a handle on  the level of my Israeli 
student.  Thanks for the suggestions.   :)
