I would also go for the library books.  Barnes and Noble is having Educator
Appreciation Week from Sept 30=Oct 8 - special 25% discount for educators
but you need to sign up for the educators discount card.  Ask any local B&N
store.  Also, Penquin Books and Powell's Books are good resources for
classroom libraries.
