I have been playing with poetry and scrolls for a few years now -- especially with fluency and comprehension -- and have, in the course of this work, developed some materials that some of you might find interesting. * The main document in the set is here: http://www.textmapping.org/millayScrollPages.pdf It provides some basic background which will help you understand the purpose and method behind the exercise. * You'll find the remaining documents here: http://www.textmapping.org/teacherTraining.html#resourcesPrinterReady , about 8 items down on the list, under the heading, "Poetry exercise: Afternoon on a Hill, by Edna St. Vincent Millay (4 document set)..
This is a deceptively simple poem that works well at many levels (in terms of connections, inferences, etc.), and for students from upper elementary through college. This is still very much a work in progress, so your feedback would be appreciated. If you use these materials, please let me know what you think.
