Hi!

It was on this group about two years ago now that I contacted Lynn Gannett
and we agreed our classes would read "A Midsummer Night's Dream" together
and share their thoughts and questions through a bulletin board. Lynn and
I posted writing prompts, they had to write about their use of different
"Mosaic of Thought" reading strategies (e.g. making inferences, making
world-text connections, etc.), and they reacted to each other's postings
as well. It was a great experience, and one I've always wanted to
re-create some day.

So I was thinking - my kids are already enjoying using my TLW Bulletin
Board to post their "Readers Response Journal" entries and read their
friends' entries (as well as any responses I might make). Maybe there's a
possibility for another bulletin board collaboration out there. It's worth
asking!

So...
In January, we are reading "The Talking Earth" by Jean Craighead George.
In late January and February, we are reading "Romeo and Juliet,"
"Antigone" or "West Side Story" (individual student choice).
Mid-late February and early March is a student-choice unit, so not much
opportunity there for collaboration...
In April, we are reading poetry the kids will be bringing in poems of
their own choosing.
In late April and early May, we are reading "Before We Were Free" by Julia
Alvarez.
In mid-late May, we are probably going to read "House on Mango Street" by
Sandra Cisneros.

Would any of you who have classes reading any of those books around those
times, or studying poetry in April, be interested in using the bulletin
board for an online discussion with my kids?

Take care,
Bill Ivey
