Thank you so much for this message. I was actually reflecting today, wondering do I make a difference? (after getting depressed reading some of their writing and wondering... a parent emailed me a letter to thank me. I send a note to each child and parent over the holidays. It is personal, citing things about the child and addressing goals that I might want the child to achieve. She thanked me for my hands on approach to teaching and caring for the students,in and out of school. That made my day.

As we head into the period of the year when the winter blues threaten, I thought we might take a moment to remind ourselves of what's been going well in our courses, and maybe catch some good ideas along the way. So what are some of the moments of pride you've had during this school year which you'd be willing to share with us? Take care, Bill Ivey Stoneleigh-Burnham School Bill, I love this question! I think I'm most proud of the class I had this fall that made me crazy; the class I dreaded every day, and now I love them. You had shared how much you enjoyed hearing Ron Clark speaking at NMSA and you inspired me to use his Essential 55 Rules in my class. I typed out the important "math class manners and expectations" that I wanted them all to follow, had them sign it and keep a copy to refer to if they "forgot their manners." My class changed into a community and I owe it all to you. That pride I share with you, Bill. And for my students: the fact that some actually enjoy reading time when they shied away from the class library bookshelves in the Fall. "some" is not good enough for me, but it's a start. Ginny Paisie Cary, NC Ginny, Congratulations on becoming a NBCT! I think you really savor that moment when you click on the website and see, "Congratulations..." I was told by one of my mentors, Nancy Flanagan, to think about buying a NBCT pin (they only cost around $10 and you can purchase them from the NB organization.) I only wore it occasionally when I needed a boost emotionally/professionally; now the kids notice if I don't wear it every day. Think about buying that pin so you can show off those 4 letters after your name with pride; you deserve it!
