I believe that homework should have a purpose. I do not assign
homework just for the sake of assigning homework.

My math class meets for 75 minutes each day. In that time I have
plenty of time to teach the concept, have the students practice and
also do some test prep. I do not usually assign homework. I've always
been able to complete the curriculum by the end of the year.

My science class is hands-on. My students are expected to read the
chapter (I'm sure most don't.), copy the vocabulary into their
notebook and answer questions. I hand out the assignment paper when
they take the chapter test for the previous chapter. The assignment
is due a day or two before the review for the chapter. It probably
takes 45 minutes to complete the written work for most chapters. They
have between one and four weeks to complete the work depending on how
long we spend on the chapter. We usually spend about three weeks.
