fountas and pinnell have something about this in their book, guiding readers and writers, page 42. the research comes from a 1988 reading research quarterly issue, #23, pp. 285-303. i'm going to use proquest and try to find the article. your book by gallagher is probably more recent. i wonder if the national reading panel address your subject?
