<<I have read "Words Their Way", "Words, Words, Words" and many other
trade books, but I can't grasp a real procedure that works. I also do
a Word of the Day everyday, but still need much more. Thanks for any
help.

Janet and others,
I have just finished reading Word Savvy: Integrated Vocabulary,
Spelling, and Word Study, Grades 3-6 by Max Brand
(http://www.amazon.com/Word-Savvy-Integrated-Vocabulary-Spelling/dp/157110366X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-3753045-1905649?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1183073574&sr=8-1)
and really liked it for its focus on how all of those areas are
interrelated. Brand shares many, many word study lessons, and though
it's a little thin on an overview of how he uses all in succession, I
appreciate his student-centered approach. His lessons are always based
on his observations of spelling and vocab mistakes his kids are
making. I'd recommend it! Please keep the vocab ideas coming,
everyone; I am desperate to do it right this year!
