Hello - I use geocities.com; you need a Yahoo id, but everything's free and
pretty easy to use. Once in geocities.com, you choose PageBuilder. I'd
suggest using their templates to start off. I have a lot of separate pages,
such Humanities, Spelling, Reading activities (includes links to favorite
author webs). This also allows me to make links to worksheets/assignments so
if they lose their homework they can go to my webpage and print one out. I
teach math, too, so I have links to many interactive math sites, which provide
reinforcement and fun, too.

Here's the site: www.geocities.com/a_lesemann - that takes you to my home
page.
http://www.geocities.com/a_lesemann/stthomasilc.html - that takes you right
to my teaching page.

I have yet to work out blogging for the kids, but this sounds like a great
idea. With middle schoolers, you'll need to watch what they're doing and where
they go online. Remind them that you can click on History to see what pages
they've visited, if they're feeling sneaky. Let's face it, there will always
be the kid or two who wanders off in Google Land...even with filters sometimes
they'll just go off task, often to see if they can get away with it.

Hope this helps - email me off the list with any questions.
