Coming out of student teaching, I had never seen one in action. I started reading about them. I started with Lucy Caulkins, Louise Rosenblatt, Stephanie Harvery and Anne Goudvis, Nancie Atwell, Ralph Fletcher, Susan Zimmerman, . I think I would encourage anyone who wants to try to read a bit, then close the door and begin. If you are lucky enough to catch some in action, cool I try very hard not to use extrinsic rewards (Alfie Kohn). I try to develop the intrinsic and let the good feelings of good work speak for themselves. I do encourage, monitor, assist, go out of my way to put them first. My actual teaching techniques have changed drastically through the years, but the basic focus hasn't changed. Read, Read, Read. Others may have better books for starting suggestions if you have younger kids. Kim On 7/5/07, Tosha Gibson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > Hello All: > > My name is Tosha. I am new to the group.
