I am in Fresno, CA.  I have never heard of such a rule.  I know we don't
have a rule like that.  I personally don't choose to spend time on the more
common holidays.  I will, however have celebrations around the reading or
writing we do.  I did show A Christmas Carol last year.  There is a segment
of the story in our anthology.  It was right before the winter break, and
the kids asked if they could have a party.  I told them to "bring food,"
which is all a 7th grader wants anyway...
