Thanks for the ideas Bill. I teach French and Language Arts, so while reading a professional 2nd language teaching book, I found a few other things to do.
I do find that the kids like choices and our district is big into differentiation. I might put a bunch of writing ideas together to connect to reading on a choice board. I do have 8th graders - they have the basic command of the language. They just need to write more often not just one expository, one narrative, and one persuasive.
