Rick's book is "Fair Isn't Always Equal - Assessing and Grading in the
Differentiated Classroom". You can read more about the book at Stenhouse:

One great thing about the book is that is challenges many of the
"traditional" methods that teachers use to "grade" their students. The ideas
are especially appropriate for secondary systems that grade on a 100 point
scale with traditional breakdowns for letter grades.
