I loop with my 7th and 8th graders and what I have done is to push them on
genre and point of view. Ask them to reach beyond their comfort zone and try
another perspective or a different format. Use RAFTS to help push them, too.

Hi all! I need some good mini lesson ideas for lifting the level of
narratives. This is for a 6th grade class...most of the class is in their 3rd
or 4th year of workshop and has done narratives before. I need to push them
now to "lift the level" of their narratives, maybe even memoir? Any great
little gems out there?

R. Blackledge

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "lifting the level" is this for
reading them? Writing them? Both?

It's for writing. In Unit 1, they did narrative writing...now, we want to
develop them further as writers and further their understanding of narrative
writing. I want to make sure that I am not teaching the same narrative
minilessons that they have heard a hundred times...any thoughts?
