Isn't this "Which app is connecting?" one of the reasons for Little Snitch's
existence, i. e. to find out
which application is doing what on your computer.
To set it up (I have to work around my lack of Mac knowledge ) I set it to "ask" for
every
connection. Aggravating, true, but then you can sort it out and by trial and error (
and some
googling) you can set up each program to your liking.
And, when I (in my ignorance) cut myself off the web, I tried to go online with Little
Snitch
disconnected. When this was successful, I worked backwards, deleted my last entry
(making it ask
me again) and opened it up temporarily. If everything worked, and I found out that the
program
wanting access to the web was to be trusted (w. google), then I made it a permanent
rule.
It takes some effort, but I'm a control freak with little knowledge of what goes on
"under the hood"
of my Mac and very, very bad experiences with my Windows HP - I physically threw the
worthless
piece o sh-- out of my front door. :-))
And just in case, you can always reset Little Snitch to it's default values.

Sorry, if I mastered the obvious or misunderstood Michael's question.

PS: Could anyone recommend a book or website, which explains the "under the hood"
workings of
OSX in layman's terms. I bought "iMac for dummies" but it was just that. I am
looking for
something in between the dummy and the expert stage. Help!
