Hi Karl,

I had figured it was a menu extra/enabler or something of that sort, but even after trying manual software update of all of the menu extras, third-party preference panes, etc., I still can't get anything to trigger LittleSnitch's alert.

Is there a way to narrow down the sort of request that's being made? (I wish I could trigger the alert if only to see how it's trying to connect to that server.) I realize this might be "too much" for some, but would it be feasible for a future update of LittleSnitch to show you some (or all) of the payload that's being sent, where possible? For plaintext requests like HTTP requests, FTP commands, etc., this could help narrow down what is actually trying to make a request when the application itself is being "shielded" (e.g., an application that actually uses Perl to make a remote connection).

Thanks for all your help so far. Hopefully I can narrow this down soon...

Hi,

Check your "Menu Extras". Some "Menu Extras" are SystemUIServer plugins. The naked SystemUIServer don't want to connect to any external server. Never completely block the SystemUIServer. This can freeze the airport menue item. Only deny specific connections. (choose "Same Server")

Hi,

LittleSnitch occasionally reports that SystemServerUI is trying to contact ds49.dotserv.net (I assume it's some sort of built-in update mechanism for an application I installed), but I can't quite figure out exactly which application is trying to contact that domain and seeing that the company appears to be related to Internet telephony, I'm not sure that I've ever installed any Internet telephony software on my PowerBook.

Any ideas what this might be?
