hmm, on the iso are there two entries for "user" in /etc/passwd or
/etc/group ?
?!
uid.gid as seen by `ls` should always follow those.
I wonder if the lack-of-background-image problem you (Alex) saw on your
burned dvd could be a manifestation of the same root problem?
