Hi Alex + all,
hm, rasdaman is Big Data Analytics engine (to use the common buzzword
used for data-scalable stuff today), so demoing on 100 kB or so will
be less convincing. So to allow a fair share of suitable use cases for
each tool, we'd need...not Petabytes, but a few 100 MB are
appreciated. Note that even tools not aligned in the massive data
sector have significant data sets on Live.
just some thoughts,

Eventually, we'll get there... a few other factors come into play:
availability/cost of larger sticks ( 4 GB sticks are common and cheap )
and limited bandwidth in many places for the download (We're still
capped at 4.4 GB for a DVD). Both of those also push us in the direction
of smaller builds.
At the same time we need to have some line to draw so that it doesn't
grow out of control either. Hence we've asked all apps to make samples
using the common datasets (which are open source data too - projects in
themselves).
We already recommend 8 GB sticks so that people have extra space to make
a persistent stick and have space to save work.
Thanks,
Alex

Angelos,
I see you point there however,
1 - I am not sure how much effort will take to have the common
dataset loaded (if it not there already) and that will probably also
limit demonstration domains
2 - Keeping the current size is indeed an option but the issue is
that it didn't get loaded at all (still looking into the root cause
of that)
As a final thought we have choice number 3: since OSGEOLive is
growing with many projects and as new applications come out they
will require even more space, why do not go directly for an 8GB
target that would fit both recent DVD and USB sticks (and users will
be happy to continue using such an usb stick afterwards and will
likely bring around the live logo on it).

Hi Alan,
In past releases the rasdaman demonstration data were reduced on
purpose
(in collaboration with rasdaman members) because we are really very
short of disk space.
Right now we are at 3.5G which is near our up limit for creating a
bootable USB stick.
So I believe that there are 2 choices:
1. to get rasdaman to use the common dataset (natural earth etc)
2. to keep the same size of rasdaman datasets as they are now. If you
wish to change the data, it is ok, as soon as the target size is the
same as before.
Thoughts?

Hi Angelos,
I think next week would be better so we can break up the datasets
and prioritize them if a reduction is needed meanwhile, we also
have some pages on the demonstrator to update so the deadline for
fixing them is still needed so we can verify them with the next
beta build.
If you will still discuss that on IRC keep me posted please.
Thanks,
Alan

Hi,
We are investigating our data load issue, do we have a schedule /
deadline for changes to get into the next beta build?
Thanks,

1. We kindly request *all projects* that are included in
OSGeoLive to
*test* this first beta and make a complete run of their Quickstart

this would reflect badly to the project and the live disk, so we
