regarding GeoTools and there is more to come.. I think they are 
working to resolve this

I just checked on the live-dvd - OJ developer discussions long time ago, and we (OpenJUMP) use a JAI version that allows re-distribution of the binaries. We use/ship JAI version 1.1.2_01
