We haven't been anywhere, and I mean anywhere, in our boat in 2 years. We got our new-to-us Cheoy Lee 2 years ago, tried several times to get away from the dock, even if just for a weekend, and something broke. Every time.
First, lost the forestay just outside our jetties That will wake you up. Next time, ran out of fuel. Had lots in the tank, the configuration was just all wrong and it left you with 1/4 of each tank that could not be gotten. Then the starter wouldn't work. Then, even before leaving the dock, found the chainplates were all junk. Had to make and install 10 new ones. Then, just as were getting ready to leave for Mexico last spring, found my father was deathly ill. Locked the boat, dorve 1000 miles, nursed him back to health. Now, I'm glad to say, we got out of sight of our jetties for the first time! Made it from Rockport to port Oconner, Tx and back Saturday and Sunday. Only problem was our previously perfectly working auto pilot is dead. And, today, we're off again on a short adventure. We're anchored in the Lydia Ann Channel near Port Aransas. Might even head offshore tomorrow if we get real brave. After 2 years, I'd say it's about time! Gene Gruender Sun Chaser (formerly of Rainbow Chaser)
