How much help is water at putting out an engine room fire? I was going to
install a hose bib and fresh water hose for cleaning up around the engine room.
Would this have an added benefit of being able to fight a fire?

Well… that sort of was what I was asking- although non-melting is a relative
term. I’m sure that means a 5 minute flame exposure or some such heat exposure
limit because any solid can melt (under the right conditions).
I guess that answers my question. I’ll look for a flame rated hose- most
likely the Trident double walled hose meets this criteria.

ABYC spells out the criteria for a fire resistance test. Time limit is 2
minutes.
Bottom line, just about anything used in the engine room which could melt,
burn, or otherwise be damaged and thus increase the risk to the vessel must be
fire rated.
Makes good common sense. Its bad enough having to deal with a fire. You don't
need complications.
The reality is also, that if you can't get the fire under control in about 2
minutes you aren't going to make with portable fire extinguishes,.
Common sense suggest your next move is to focus on abandoning the vessel safely.
Larger vessels with built in fire fighting systems and the flotation ability to
handle tons of water being sprayed on a fire have different criteria.
Remember 200 gallons at 10 lb per imperial gallon = one ton.
How much extra weight can your boat handle before it becomes unstable or
acquires negative buoyancy,
