Clean where you need to fasten with a wire brush and then use aceton 
(use Nitro gloves and ventilate and don't breath and have NO FIRES or 
SPARKS! But nothing works better than aceton to clean fiberglass, just 
don't get it on ANY other plastics or you will be very sorry.)

Use West epoxy with added high density filler for strength, and 
microfibers to 'gel so it doesn't drip. You can get West in small quick 
set kits, but beware you have little working time with this stuff. Glue 
small wooden blocks down to screw larger things into.

But...closed shelves (I use sliding doors) work far better esp for 
things like knives that will  get away at exactly the wrong time.-Ken
