That is true for Modified Sine Wave (MSW) inverters.  Almost all
motors will develop less than their rated power with MSWs which means
that the motor has to work harder as a result.  There are other issues
with MSWs such as certain digital devices which refuse to work at all,
and excessive radio interference.  We switched to a sine wave inverter
with out latest boat and have been very happy with it, no problems at
all.
