Hi,
Angel Louise is at North Myrtle Beach going north on the ICW.

We left Charleston late on Wednesday morning heading for North Carolina.
This morning we sit in a new 'resort marina' at Barefoot Landing South
Carolina. It is on the West Bank of the ICW directly opposite what used
to be the free docks at a large discount and vacation mall (they now
charge $1.50 a foot.) We took the dinghy over across the ICW and they
charged us $5 to just tie up there for happy hour.

Since the Resort's Marina & 'Yacht Club' charges $1.50 a foot -
there is no reason not to stay here where we are sheltered from
ICW wakes and currents. Plus we have a beautiful pool that was said
to be
the largest in South Carolina??

Yesterday we went through pure beauty. It started from an anchorage
on North Santee River (which friends receiving emails see pictured on
the MAC ENC chartplotter picture below).

After a beautiful sunrise over the marsh, we started up a creek named
Estherville Creek toward the bay and ultimately the Waccama River.
While on creek, just north of the 415 mile marker we saw an alligator.
It was just about 7 am when I saw looking down the straight channel
what appeared to be a small snag of some foilage ahead. When I
got there, it had eyes and a nose and was the head of a small crock!
I summoned everyone from in the cabin where breakfast was being
served and had our camera fetched, and include a picture of the him.
He was swimming to the shore as we went out of sight.

We don't hame many pictures of the cut that goes through Myrtle Beach
to the north.
Its a high walled ditch blasted out of stone by the Corps of
Engineers in the 30s,
and though there are some fabulous homes, the sides are too high to
see much
alongside where there are around 50 golf clubs. Our marina is near a
Pete Dye
designed course. Attached at the bottom are pictures for those who
are receiving
our regular emails & pictures with descriptions as we cruise north on
the ICW.

We owe much to Hayden & Raydeen Cochran whose super blog and
Google Maps give us inspiration and a head's up as we travel north.

Hayden's web based voluntary effort has MULTIPLE MAPS AND PICTURES
and has much influence on our planning and (thanks to a Verizon USB
Modem)
we sometimes pull it up underway. We have have used his web blog and
google maps for planning and found them super.

We do not praise his work idly. I am an enthusiast and we have 3
chartplotters
aboard:
MAC ENC w/ free govt computer ENC & raster charts;
Raymarine E-80 and Navionics Platinum charts;
Raytheon RL80C Pathfinder with Navionics chips.

We also have multiple paper charts due to my past WM employment,
and count among our favorite charts:

Managing the Waterway,
Chartracker to the ICW Waterway,
The Intracoastal Waterway Chartbook.

Here is where Angel Louise started and ended Thursday May 8th:

just has grasses, a swamp has trees too, otherwise they are the similar)

IMG_1499.JPG An Alligator in the ICW! This guy pictured swimming
for shore just North of the ICW 415 mile marker. I originally changed
the autopilot 1 degree to starboard to avoid what I though was a
clump of grass and roots floating toward me as we went north. When we
were approaching close I could not believe my eyes the clump was eyes
and a snout passing down the port side.
I got the camera and snapped a couple blindly in hopes of capturing
him on zoom as he was a ways behind us.
He came up in two of the pictures. What a sight. I have not seen
any other crocks in the wild from GA North!

IMG_1505.JPG A ferry crossing that goes over the creek to get
traffic from one side to the other via a small ferry south of
Georgetown on the ICW. I think this is a cable ferry.

IMG_1519.JPG Between Georgetown and the approaches to Myrtle Beach
are great views of nature. Eagles, osprey, and all the variety one
could hope for: here a mangrove tree used as a sign post for a sign
advertising a marina.
