Capt,

In fact, I did buy an RV unit first.

I tried to "improve" it by adding a foam gasket in the groove provided in the
dome base. A few days into our northbound voyage last year, in Fernandina
Beach, in a driving rainstorm, water got into the dome and damaged the
electronics.

I sent the unit back to the factory where they were at a loss to figure out how
water got in. I confessed that it was on a boat but did not mention the foam
gasket. They agree to sell me an upgrade to a marine unit. It came with a
gasket much like the one I had used but the antenna has worked properly ever
since. The extra price of the marine unit they said was because it had some
extra waterproofing for the marine environment.

Perhaps if I had done a better job with the gasketing the RV unit would have
worked well.

Thanks norm, I was hoping you bought the rv unit and it worked for you (it's
cheaper)

See you on the Waterways!
