I stressed my brain cells trying to figure out what would cause it to 
work so well but not turn the flywheel. It came down to some dirt/gunk 
interfering. Since you have your old starter removed, you could just fix 
it yourself.

Like yours, mine is awkward to handle, due to location and lack of 
space. I can get one hand in there well, and then fingers of the other 
hand, ouch! So I used some small lines to suspend it, and some wood 
pieces to support it sometimes. What a job!

As usual, the actual solution was far simpler than I imagined 
(cleaning). Doing it is not so easy though..
