It all depends on how the pump is set up.

If you suck from a hose you could hook it to any arrangement of pvc pipes and
fittings with a bunch of holes drilled in them.

You could mount a pipe so there is a small gap between the bottom of the pipe
and the bottom of the bilge small enough to just allow debris that the pump can
handle.

You could attach a hose to a fitting to the bottom of a colander upside down in
the bilge.

There is lots of room for creative engineering here.

So far so good with Fay. No damage to the boat just some rain water in one of
the hulls from my various window and other leaks.
The bilge pump quit at some point. I guess it just had more than it can take.
I am looking at the 12 volt utility pumps at Harbor Freight and thinking about
using them instead of these crappy plastic pumps. The only thing is that the
bilge strainers are way over priced for what they are. Does anyone know of
anything that that can be made to work as a strainer or places to get cheap
ones? West wants $25.00 for a cheap plastic strainer and that is just insane.
