   We have one additional question. The old alternator had a capacitor wired to 
the positive post of the alternator, presumably to "excite" the alternator. In 
replacing the alternator should I wire in this capacitor in again or does a new 
alternator not need one. In the wiring diagrams of the new alternator it does

  REPLY that may be  a noise supressor filter cap.  Very common  on older boats 
that had AM marine radios.  Not as much need with newer FM radios.
