Lee:

We have had two years' experience with our Magma Catalina and use it 4 or 5
times a week. Yes, they are too expensive, BUT we have had no problems with
high wind or uneven heating. I can only recall one time when it "blew out"
and the wind must have been in the 30-40 knot range when it happened.

It does have some brownish stains on the exterior and I'm not sure if it's
corrosion or the result grease fires. I haven't tried very hard to remove
them, so I don't know how permanent they are.

The push button igniter lasted about two weeks, though. Other cruisers tell
me that's pretty typical. I found rather pricey "one size fits all"
replacement igniter at West Marine. It didn't really fit, but I got it
installed anyhow and, yep, it lasted about two weeks. We now use the butane
fire sticks.

Overall, we're very happy with our Catalina. As I recall, Practical Sailor
rated them pretty highly -- maybe Numero Uno. If you want, I might be able
to dig out the article.

Good luck!
