That sounds like a great solution for a safe dinghy light!

I once put together an Abandon Ship kit when I was going to sea for a
living.  It included a very warm cap with a strobe light attached to the
top of it.  It got a good laugh from the guys on the bridge when I
demonstrated it, but I have a feeling that if I ever had to use it (and the
other items, including a VHF) I would be the life of the party.
